2018 Summer BBQ at Porteau Cove!

We had a great turnout of 20+ for our annual summer BBQ! It was great to catch up with friends we haven't seen in a while, as well as meeting new friends and members! It was a beautiful sunny day, even if the viz wasn't the greatest.

Thanks again to Elsa, Brent, Mike E. and Mike B. for organizing and taking care of feeding the hungry troupe! :)

Nanaimo Dive Trip - Feb. 24-25, 2018

We went to dive the wrecks and sites with our friends at Shepherd Charters and Nanaimo Dive Outfitters. We braved the chilly waters and had a fantastic time diving the wrecks of Rivtow Lion, Saskatchewan, as well as Clark Rock and Jesse Island. Can't wait to go back!

Thanks to Michel, Grant, Rick, Kathrin and Jude for contributing photos and videos for this mini 'movie'. Enjoy! :)

Socorro Liveaboard Experience

Stuart and Chet spent an amazing week with Nautilus Undersea to experience the beauty of Socorro and the chance to play with manta rays, whale sharks, sharks! A must-dive for everyone!

December Club Event - Annual Scuba Xmas Party!!!

ARRR...it's our annual scuba club Xmas party! This year's theme is 'Davy Jones' Locker' which meant, well, anything and everything one can find at the bottom of the sea or shipwreck. We had great participation in our 'Secret Santa' gift exchange where pirating was allowed - hey, goes with the theme!

Thanks to Mike Birchfield and his wife, Brenda, for hosting this year's club xmas party at his place! Quite a few pirates, scallywags, and maidens showed up. Everyone behaved...well, mostly everyone. ;)

Boat Diving - Howe Sound
It's always a great day for a boat dive, despite the rain! Our friends at Sea Dragon Charters took us out for 2 fun dives around Howe Sound. We had a great turnout, delicious chocolate fudge, and prizes! Can't wait to go again! :)

Browning Pass HideAway - Port Hardy
A small group of us went to Browning Pass HideAway Resort in September for a few days of amazing diving!
Port Hardy/Browning Pass is the cold water capital and loved by everyone!   "The best temperate diving in the known universe".
Can't wait to go back!

Club Pool Night
We recently held pool sessions for club members to practice dive skills and have some fun with underwater games. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed pool nights and looking forward to more opportunities to practice skills and have fun. Great team building sessions, too.
Organized by Daniel McMath.

Boat Diving - Howe Sound
Stuart shared this short video of his recent boat dives at Mini Reef Master and Whirlcombe with Sea Dragon Charters. Several wolf eels, as well as an octopus out strolling along a wall were spotted. Thanks for sharing Stuart!

Hyperbaric Chamber Dive - Simon Fraser University, Burnaby Campus
A group of 18 divers from the club participated in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber (simulated) dive to 164 ft. to experience the physiological effects of diving at depth, aka 'getting narc'd'. This was a very cool experience! Sherri Ferguson from SFU conducted a very informative session, including info on risk factors, symptoms, and types of DCS.  We also shared some laughs as we discovered we all sounded like we're on helium at depth. Every one reacts differently to being 'narc'd'.  Photos courtesy of Michel, Kelly, and Judith.

Take home message: DCS can happen after any dive - Have O2 on site always! - Always have a D.A.M. plan. - Be careful if you are "Type A' personality.
Campbell River Boat Diving - Easter Long Weekend
We enjoyed a fun weekend of boat diving around Campbell River with Pacific Pro Dive. This is one of our favourite destinations - we just might have to make this an annual dive tradition! :)

Pictures from the dive club's 2017 annual calendar.  Great shots everyone!
